Industry and Customer:
In the entire industry, the biggest focus for coffee shops is on convenience, speed and personalization. Starbucks is currently at the center of the industry because they are currently experimenting with Apple’s iBeacon software. Many people, including myself, have never even heard of what this is. How it works is messages are sent out via low-energy Bluetooth transmitters to smartphones in close proximity. The messages are tailored to the individuals smartphone and it delivers only relevant information for that particular customer. Other areas of technological development include easier ordering and payment methods. The goal for the industry as a whole, is that customers will be able to order their favorite drinks by message and the barista will have it waiting when they arrive at the store.
Competitor:
Looking into different competitor technologies, Biggby also has an app that you can download on your phone. However, it doesn’t have the same features that Starbucks has, and overall I think Starbucks has a nicer app. Starbucks is by far leading all of their competitors.
